In October 2025, the latest English Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD 2025) were published — the Government’s official measure of relative deprivation across 33,755 neighbourhoods in England. These statistics show that deprivation remains deeply entrenched in many communities, and has dropped significantly in the areas where we work (London Borough of Hackney). GOV.UK+1
According to the new data:
-
Hackney ranks among the top 10 most deprived local authorities in England, and is the third highest ranked for household income deprivation nationally. London Sport Data Hub
-
The area in which we operate (in and around Stamford Hill) ranks within the lowest 10% on the IMD scale — making it one of the most challenged in the whole borough. Local Deprivation Explorer 2025+1
These figures are not just statistics — they reflect the lived reality of many young women and families in our community. But they also highlight why Teen Action’s work is more essential than ever.
Responding with Hope, Innovation, and Pathways Forward
At Teen Action, we don’t just document inequality — we respond to it with purpose. The latest deprivation data underscores the urgency of creating real opportunities in education, training, skills development, and employment for marginalised women in Hackney.
Through initiatives such as the Skills for Londoners community outreach, and new pathways into education and employment, we are supporting young women to build confidence, gain meaningful skills, and step into opportunities that can reshape their futures.
We see this not as work because the data is challenging — but in spite of it. Because every statistic represents a person with potential.
Hope Rooted in Action
The IMD 2025 release reminds us that inequality is persistent — but it also helps us to target our efforts where they matter most. In one of England’s most deprived neighbourhoods, Teen Action is working with young women to turn challenge into opportunity.
We are committed to opening doors, building skills, and supporting futures — not with resignation, but with innovation, optimism, and community-centred action.
Let’s build a Hackney where deprivation no longer defines possibility.
